We’ve Arrived in The Exumas!

We spent the past two lovely days anchored off Rose Island, 5 miles south of Nassau. The beach was glorious, and we snorkeled yesterday on the best reef we’ve seen in these parts – gorgeous coral of all kinds and lots of fish – a real octopus’ garden (though we didn’t see any of those!).

Today we motored for 7 hours, out of sight of land, under a very blue sky on rolly turquoise seas, with the wind on our nose and waves crashing over the bow into our cockpit – a wild ride! But we arrived at a totally still anchorage on the western side of Norman’s Cay – our first stop in the Exumas – with only one other sailboat and a white sand beach in sight.

After a hot shower on the boat (water heated by the motor – heaven), I blew my conch to the setting sun (a Bahamian tradition), and thus ended another beautiful day on Sea Change. It feels like our real vacation has finally begun J.

Happy Valentine's day to all -
