We spent the past two lovely days anchored
off Rose Island, 5 miles south of Nassau. The beach was glorious, and we
snorkeled yesterday on the best reef we’ve seen in these parts – gorgeous coral
of all kinds and lots of fish – a real octopus’ garden (though we didn’t see
any of those!).
Today we motored for 7 hours, out of sight of land, under a very
blue sky on rolly turquoise seas, with the wind on our nose and waves crashing
over the bow into our cockpit – a wild ride! But we arrived at a totally still
anchorage on the western side of Norman’s Cay – our first stop in the Exumas –
with only one other sailboat and a white sand beach in sight.
After a hot shower on the boat (water
heated by the motor – heaven), I blew my conch to the setting sun (a Bahamian
tradition), and thus ended another beautiful day on Sea Change. It feels like
our real vacation has finally begun J.
