We left Joe’s Sound this morning after a
warm good-bye to our new friends, Pat and Earl (pic below). A short motor ride
back through the scary, very narrow exit from the bay, took us to Stella Maris
Marina, where we are now getting ready to have the boat hauled and
bottom-painted.
As we docked the boat, we had a huge visitor – a 500 lb Manatee, poking
its head above the water, apparently asking for fresh water to drink. The dock
hand obliged him from a jug, and I swear I saw the Manatee smile gratefully! So
far the biggest live creature we’ve seen this trip was a large starfish on the
way here – so this was a special treat. There are only three Manatee around
Long Island, moving from bay to bay, and they had never seen this particular
one here before. We felt very welcomed!
